Why should a teacher join the OAS Community on ProjectBoard? The OAS programs provide a way to connect classrooms to the real world, allowing educators to demonstrate the importance of STEM and entrepreneurship subjects. Through student-centered learning, students can enjoy a motivating path to achieving their academic goals. These programs offer ready-to-use curricular resources, mentoring, and professional support for implementation, all aligned with Ohio’s learning standards. Additionally, they expand educators' professional networks by connecting them with STEM professionals and community partners. The programs also support OTES 2.0 Accomplished ratings and naturally offer personalized learning and differentiation among students.

What will my students get out of this experience?Participating brings many advantages to your class. It offers students a glimpse of what lies ahead, guiding their educational and career paths. They will acquire self-guided learning skills and essential abilities like critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication, all vital in today's changing job market. The ever-evolving landscape of innovation and technology impacts even unfamiliar industries and careers. Students will receive insights and feedback from STEM experts, presenting chances for recognition and scholarships. Their engagement will stand out on college applications, showcasing their distinct experiences. Furthermore, they'll connect with peers who share their passion for using science and technology to solve problems. Most importantly, this is an enjoyable and personalized journey, granting students control over their explorations. This involvement could also count toward the STEM Honors Diploma or serve as a notable Capstone Project for a special Graduation Seal.
-
Is there a cost for my students to join?No cost! Your students can collaborate on projects with you in the classroom for free. If they're keen on participating in our statewide events, there are small fees for District Science Day, State Science Day, Buckeye Science & Engineering Fair, and Ohio STEP. Why would a student do a project-based learning template vs. just submit to an event? The benefits of doing a project-based learning template is your ability to showcase your learning as your work and inviting feedback to enhance your project. The template allows you to tap into provided resources for better explanations and more practice, improving your overall project. Additionally, it's a way to connect with peers who share your interests and STEM professionals who can enrich your understanding and provide future career support.

Why would I encourage my child to get involved with OAS?Parents are motivated to encourage their children's involvement in order to teach problem-solving skills through inquiry and design. This process involves higher-order thinking and mirrors what scientists, engineers, innovators, and entrepreneurs use to make discoveries and create value. Hands-on STEM learning builds foundational skills that boost confidence, foster self-validation, and let students build their resumes and envision future success. It also helps provide pathways to scholarships and breaks barriers to post-secondary and career paths that might seem unattainable. Despite being required in Ohio's learning standards, inquiry-based learning and building prototype solutions aren't commonly part of standard lesson plans. Just as parents introduce kids to sports for foundational skills and fun, OAS programs serve the same purpose. These programs allow students to apply their knowledge in context, showing why future coursework matters. In short, they ignite and accelerate learning. Participating in OAS programs sets students apart on college applications. Outstanding students can earn awards and scholarships for their college resumes. In 2023, OAS granted in scholarships to high-achieving STEM students. Participating in OAS programs connects kids with other motivated peers, building both social and professional networks.
